Agricultural Engineering

Agricultural Engineer - Irrigation Design

Designing drip irrigation networks, setting crop water requirements and the moisture thresholds the control logic is built on, and producing baseline studies.

Details

You will design irrigation networks from pump to emitter: zoning, flow and friction-loss calculation along the laterals, and emitter and valve selection that delivers acceptable distribution uniformity along the whole run rather than only at its head.

You will set crop water requirement per growth stage using crop coefficients and reference evapotranspiration, and derive from them the moisture thresholds at which a valve opens and closes. Those figures go straight into the controller logic and into the savings calculator on this site, so no coefficient is written without a published source.

You will run the baseline study: two weeks measuring existing consumption before anything is installed, and writing the report everything afterwards is compared against.

You will also prepare the technical documents a bank requires with a modern-irrigation financing application, and meet customers to explain the design and what to expect from it.

Requirements

  • A degree in agricultural engineering or agriculture, specialising in irrigation and water engineering or equivalent.
  • Practical command of crop water requirement calculation and the FAO Irrigation and Drainage Paper 56 methodology.
  • Experience designing drip networks, including friction loss and distribution uniformity.
  • AutoCAD and Excel at the level of building calculation sheets, not merely using them.
  • Knowledge of Egyptian soil types and their water-holding behaviour, particularly reclaimed sandy soils.
  • Able to write a technical report in Arabic and English that both a farmer and a bank officer can read.
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to make regular site visits.

What we offer

  • Social and medical insurance.
  • Real technical ownership: the crop coefficients you write go straight into the product.
  • An annual training budget and support to attend specialist technical conferences.
  • Full travel allowance on site visits.
  • Flexible hours outside peak season.
